Traveling with children can be a bit more work. There is more to pack. More to plan. And let’s face it, it’s harder to” just wing it.” Of course, plans, no matter how great a plan it is, can change. Here is a great itinerary for families. Back-up choices have been added as well.

As Spring approaches, families begin to plan vacations and head out to explore. Temperatures get a bit warmer, and blue skies appear more often. Even here on the coast, nicer weather is coming. The fog will lift a bit earlier, and fog will roll in a little later. As the days get longer and a tad warmer, we start to see more visitors.
The ever-so-popular annual Mermaid Festival is expanding this year. This festival is held every weekend in April. The event is free and family friendly, including admission to the museum. The event takes place at the Westport Winery Garden Resort, home of the International Mermaid Museum, nestled halfway between Aberdeen and Westport.
Westport is a great location for making memories. Westhaven State Park is known for its remarkable tide pools. Generally, the best time to look for tide pools is early summer mornings, late fall afternoons, and winter afternoons. This is when the lowest tides are. Though these are the optimal times, anytime the tide is low, a tide pool may be found. Enjoy the journey of the search!
